| When I first thought about why, I did it mostly to save money but then I found many other reasons why cloth is best for my babies. The simplest is I wear cloth on my butt why shouldn’t I put that on my baby too. Here are my top five reasons…
1. Money - Cloth diapers save you a ton of money! It is figured that you will spend at least $2000 per child on diapers. A cloth diaper system can run you anywhere from $300 - $600 and can be used again when you have more children saving you even more money.
2. Health – Babies that wear cloth diapers have less diaper rash, cloth breathes better and are not as hot as disposable diapers. In addition cloth diapered babies get changed more often because both parents and they themselves know when they are wet. The chemicals used in disposable diapers can not only cause irritation to sensitive skin but can also contribute to male infertility, allergies, Toxic Shock Syndrome, liver disease, immune system suppression, genetic damage, asthma, and urinary tract infections in girls.
3. Environment – Every child produces at least 6500 diapers. We already know now the chemicals used in the diapers are harmful to our babies so after they are used they are now place in our landfills which can contaminate our water and earth between the chemicals used to make them and the bacteria from the fecal matter.
4. Potty Training – Babies that wear cloth diapers usually potty train sooner than those that wear disposable. Disposable diapers are made to keep baby so dry that they never even know when they are wet making it harder for them to know when they need to go to the bathroom. Babies that wear cloth diapers will let you know when they need a clean diaper and learn very quickly that they prefer to be not only dry but clean as well.
