Rash problems

I'm wondering if anybody has any answers for me. My 5 month old has had a constant battle with a rash on her little bottom. Particularly where the elastic touches her skin. I'm pretty sure she is alergic to latex so I have been keeping that completely away from her.

I have tried almost everything. I have tried washing the cloth diapers with baking soda, line dried them to let the sun bleach them, tried different laundry detergents, and have tried wool covers.

I switched to wool because I read all about them and heard they breathe much better and don't keep moisture locked in. But, she had a reaction to that as well.

Her rash looks red, splotchy, and sometimes the area can raise. Where elastic touches her it gets very red and the skin is raised with welts.

When she was very tiny we used disposable because I didn't have any covers that fit her tiny body. She did not have a rash then.

We used cloth diapers with our first child and she never had the problems are little one is having. We would like to use cloth diapers if at all possible so if anyone might have an alternative answer to using disposables we sure would appreciate it. Thank you!

I am so sorry I have not been on in a while! I would first look at stripping your diapers. Sometimes even if you switch your wash routine there can still be build up that irritate the skin. Also simply baking soda may not be enough to rinse all the urine from the diapers which may be part of the problem as well. Some moms can use just that and it works for them and others can't. It really depends a lot on where you live and what your water is like. Have you tried using vinegar in your rinse cycle?

My favorite washing pattern is, cold water wash with Charilie's Soap, wash again with hot water wash with extra rinse cycle on, no detergent and vinegar in a downy ball. Then I strip my diapers every few months with dish soap. This works well for me but maybe some others have some more suggestions for you to try as well.

Have you also used organic diapers with your wool covers? This may help as well but right now it sounds like a washing problem.

Hope this helps!
